About Health & Safety and the Role

The Health & Safety team ensure that we operate safe working environments for all THG employees and visitors. The team provide on-site support to ensure risks are managed in a timely fashion, as well as completing audits and checks to so the business meets all health, safety and environment-related legislative requirements. The team are also responsible for achieving and maintaining legal environmental compliance to safeguard the business from financial and reputational damage.

The Fulfilment Health and Safety Manager is responsible for leading health, safety, and environmental management at our fulfilment centres, ensuring a safe, compliant, and efficient working environment for all staff. You will be the site’s key HSE advisor, working closely with operational leaders to embed a strong safety culture while aligning with company-wide HSE policies and objectives. This role is both strategic and hands-on, covering daily risk management, compliance assurance, incident investigation, and proactive engagement with teams to drive continuous improvement.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead the fulfilment centre’s HSE strategy, ensuring compliance with legal requirements, company policies, and industry best practice.
  • Conduct regular risk assessments, inspections, and audits, ensuring hazards are identified, controlled, and mitigated.
  • Investigate accidents, incidents, and near-misses, identifying root causes and implementing corrective actions.
  • Deliver HSE training, inductions, and toolbox talks to ensure all staff understand and apply safe working practices.
  • Monitor HSE performance metrics, reporting regularly to both the Site Leads and Central HSE team.
  • Drive engagement initiatives to foster a proactive safety culture throughout the fulfilment centre.
  • Involvement in contractor vetting and other contractor management processes
  • Chair the site health and safety committee meetings.
  • Ensure emergency plans are tested on a regular basis and that any identified improvements are implemented
  • Lead the site internal health and safety auditing regime
  • Liaise with regulatory bodies and external auditors as required.
  • Stay up to date with relevant HSE legislation and ensure timely updates to site processes.
  • Collaborate with other HSE Managers across the business to share best practices and support group initiatives.

Requirements:

  • Proven experience as an HSE Manager or similar role in a logistics, warehouse, fulfilment, or manufacturing environment.
  • Strong knowledge of HSE legislation, standards (e.g., ISO 45001, ISO 14001), and risk management principles.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and influencing skills at all levels.
  • NEBOSH Diploma (or equivalent) essential; working towards CMIOSH status desirable.
  • Practical experience in incident investigation and root cause analysis.
  • Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • IT proficient, with experience in HSE reporting systems and data analysis.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with wider teams.
