I joined the Events & Activations team at Myprotein as a digital marketing apprentice straight out of school, with no experience in a corporate environment. But with a passion for the sports nutrition industry and a drive to learn, I’ve grown alongside the team. Now, three and a half years later, I’m still part of the events team, contributing to the growth and progression of the channel. From small-scale influencer shoots in my first few weeks to hosting large public activations with thousands in attendance—it’s been an incredible journey!
The university route never appealed to me, so when I came across the opportunity to work in an industry I was passionate about while also gaining an apprenticeship qualification, it was a no-brainer. Being thrown in the deep end in a fast-paced environment was the best way for me to learn quickly. Since then, I’ve progressed to Senior Events & Activations Executive and continue to aspire for more.
One of the best parts of my role is learning on the job while fully immersing myself in an industry I already followed closely. My motivation to succeed in this space has always been innate, and I was eager to expand my knowledge from day one.
One thing that everyone in marketing would likely agree on is that no two days are the same. My day-to-day typically involves meetings with other teams involved in planning and executing events, brainstorming activation ideas, and pulling together proposals and budgets. I also get to travel frequently—whether for event delivery or scouting venues—which is a great perk of the role.
To manage large-scale events, I find breaking them down into smaller sections makes them feel less overwhelming. This allows me to focus on one area at a time rather than juggling too many things at once (though sometimes, that’s inevitable!). Collaboration is also a huge part of the job—working across different teams ensures that everyone is aligned and accountable for their role in bringing an event to life.
With events, nothing ever goes 100% to plan. Learning to think ahead, be adaptable, and problem-solve on the spot is key. This took some time to adjust to, especially when months of planning go into an event, but now it comes naturally.
For anyone looking to pursue a career in events, my advice would be to consume as much content as possible in the space. There’s always something to learn—whether from competitors’ activations or what influencers are posting. The industry is constantly evolving, so staying ahead of trends and movements is crucial.
I've been lucky to have truly supportive managers throughout my time at Myprotein, who have always pushed me and provided clear routes for progression—something I’m incredibly grateful for. I’ve also benefited from additional mentorship, which has given me fresh perspectives on my development and helped me grow even further.
