Gabby joined THG in November 2023 and since then, has been given full ownership of all things Early Careers in Beauty. When recruiting for our Graduate cohorts, she's not looking for people with specific degrees from specific universities. She's looking for people who are ambitious, enthusiastic, and want to push themselves out of their comfort zone. Keep reading to find out Gabby's advice for new graduates.

What We're Looking For

Your Degree: Don’t just write your degree title; elaborate on your modules, dissertation topic if applicable, and any relevant coursework. We want to deep dive into what you studied as we won’t know which areas you focused on just from the course title. Also, if you were involved in any societies, tell us about it!

Year in Industry: We like to see candidates who have completed a Year in Industry during their studies or have relevant work experience in the area you’re applying for to show you have some understanding of that specific field.

General Work Experience: Any experience in a workplace looks great on your CV; whether that’s retail, hospitality, charity work, etc. This shows us that you have good time management, want to push yourself, and can juggle different things at once.

Additional Courses: This isn’t mandatory, however it’s great to see candidates have gone above and beyond to complete relevant courses in their free time in the fields they’re interested in, building your knowledge and understanding. These could be a university short course, a Google course, etc.

Extra-Curricular Hobbies: Completed a Duke of Edinburgh Award? Used to play county hockey? Got into running this year? Stick it on your CV – this shows you’re pushing yourself out of your comfort zone and keen to achieve new goals.

Don't forget, these are just guidelines. If you don't have everything listed above, we'd still love to see your application!

Application Tips

One thing people rush is a cover letter. We understand that writing a cover letter for each application can be a long process, but it’s very easy to tell if it’s a generic cover letter or written by AI.

Do some research into the company, read the job description a few times (not only for your application but to make sure it’s something you definitely want to do) and personalise your cover letter to show that research. This will help your application as it shows you have a genuine understanding of who and what you’re applying for.

What to Expect at a THG Assessment Centre

We try and make our Early Careers recruitment process as smooth as possible as we appreciate you’re juggling studying and exams around this time. You’ll initially be asked to conduct a screening call with a Talent Partner on Microsoft Teams. This is to find out more about you and deep dive into your CV. If successful after this, you’ll be invited to our Graduate Assessment Centre which normally takes place in January.

During the Assessment Centre, we try and make it as insightful and engaging as possible, including:

All our Assessment Centres are in person so that you can get to know THG – it’s not just us making sure you’re the right fit for the role, but also making sure we’re the right fit for you as well.

Final Thoughts

My dad always told me when I was younger that when applying for a role, it’s the only time you can boast about yourself and your achievements, and someone is genuinely interested. Now I work in the industry and conduct interviews, he was completely right.

Showcase your strengths, achievements, interests, motivations, hobbies. We want to get to know you as best as we can - and when you join THG, the only way is up. Start your career doing something you're passionate about, in a thriving business where the sky is the limit.

We look forward to seeing your application!
