Values in Action: Bringing The Overlap to Life
12.06.2024

Hosted at our very own THG Studios, The Overlap is back for a brand-new season. Let’s look back on how collaboration between Gary and our talented creatives brought The Overlap vision to life.

Since February 2023, THG Studios has been home to The Overlap, Gary Neville’s hit YouTube show which has recently celebrated 100 million views on YouTube. From creative development and branding, to set build and show production, THG Studios have worked with Gary and his team to execute the vision. Let’s find out how they did it.

The brief was to create an engaging and immersive space for a three-part football-based show. The space needed to be iconic and memorable and needed to give a nod to football culture in the UK without being overly cliché. We had 6-weeks to deliver everything, ready for a live audience.

“We’ve worked in partnership with THG to build the studio and the team have done an unbelievable job. Absolutely brilliant.” - Gary Neville.

To kick things off, the team first had to think about the journey they wanted to take viewers on. What do fans associated with football and how do we bring that sense of culture into a set design? They studied Manchester’s urban buildings, researched Northern artists, and visited the side streets that fans walk down on match day, drawing inspiration from all three for the creative concepts.

“We wanted to showcase THG's talent in every inch of the design including branding, carpentry, lighting design, build, set design, and set dressing. We also collaborated with some northern creatives and artists outside of THG to create a custom wall mural for the set. Collaboration was key in the overall vision and mindset of the team.” - Mike Scott, Executive Creative Director.

Once the creative concepts had been agreed with Gary and his team, it was over to our Stylists, Interior Stylists, Set Builders, and Designers to bring the ideas to life.

12-weeks, 1 tonne of timber, and 1000 litres of paint later, THG Studios became home to The Overlap.
